Health & Safety

In anything you do in the Media Industry, you must make sure you do a risk assessment. The Risk Assessment is required to identify and solve any risk hazards. For example, in photography you don't want anyone involved to trip over any wires lying around.

For our lesson on Health & Safety, we were given a risk assessment sheet and were asked to go around the room filling in the risks and finding their solutions. One of the risks we came across was 'Water'. Water was a risk because if placed in the wrong place, it could get knocked over and spill onto the electrical's thus starting a fire or causing them to get electrocuted. The solution to this would be to ask people to put their drink away, keep their drink away from electrical's or use a screw top bottle when having drinks.

The list of risks we were looking for are;

  • Audience/Public
  • Access
  • Lifting
  • Confined Spaces
  • Animals
  • Derelict Buildings/Dangerous Machinery
  • Electricity or Gas
  • Fire/Flammable Material
  • Manual Handling
  • Noise
  • Physical Exertion
  • Heat/Cold
  • Vehicles
  • Violence/Public Disorder
  • Water
  • Weather
  • Working Patterns
  • Working at Heights
  • Burns & Scolds
