Looking Onward
In this photograph the main focus point would be the face of the cat. The sharpest point of the photograph would be the cats right ear, the point least sharp would be the tail. There are shadows in the photograph, though quite faint, they are able to be seen on the wall or the blankets. The Highlights in the photograph is mainly on the litter tray on the side of the photograph, it makes the litter tray extremely brighter than the original colour. This would allow us to know that it is daytime as it is bright but quite early in the morning as the shadows aren't as opaque as if the sun was at its brightest. Since the photograph was taken about 10.30am I would say that it is pretty accurate. As the sun was used as the lighting, the light was natural. The dominant lines in this photograph would be the cage itself. The lines are straight, quite thin and slightly diagonal with the slight angle the photograph was taken. There are geometric shapes in this photograph, the rectangle shapes created by the gaps between the bars of the cage. If I could touch the surface of my photograph I would feel the silky fur of the cat, the cold and slightly rust metal of the cage and the cotton of the blankets. The tone in the photograph, I suppose, would mainly be focused on the cat. The tail has a darker tone, almost black, and as we follow the direction the cat is looking the cat gets brighter in tone. The main colour on this photograph that has the most meaning is the orange that stands out in the cat's fur. Orange is the colour that can symbolise optimism
, I think that works since the cat is optimistic and looking towards a new life. I have used Photoshop to edit my photograph, The colours are more vibrant instead of dull so that they don't mix in a dull greyish colour it originally was and the photograph is now positioned so that the nose of the cat and the bar of the cage in line with the nose is in line with the top line of the rule of thirds.
Before the Cleaning
The main focus point in this photograph would be the dirty pen in the bottom right corner. The sharpest point would be the litter tray and the water bowl, the point least sharp would be the cat itself. There are shadows of the cage bars on the back wall that are quite dark. The highlights are on the cat, the cat is far brighter than the other areas of the photograph because the white fur is reflecting the sun. The lighting in the photograph is natural lighting from the sun. Since the shadows on the back wall are really opaque and the cat itself is really bright then I would guess that it is the time of day where the sun is the brightest which would be at noon, since the photograph was taken at 12:15pm I would say that's pretty close. The dominant lines in this photograph are the thin bars of the cage, the angle that the photograph was taken gives the illusion that the bars are actually curved when they are actually straight. The geometric shapes in the photograph is the rectangles created by the bars of the cage and the shadows formed by those bars. If I could touch the surface of the photograph I would feel the smooth fur of the cat, the paper feel of the newspaper, the cotton of the blankets, the hard plastic of the litter tray and food bowl and the metal of the cage and water bowl. All textures would feel relatively smooth except the rustiness of the cage. There is a range of tones in the photograph, the right side of the photograph is quite dark and shadowed and the further left you go the brighter the tone becomes. The main colour in this photograph would be the light blue colour of the litter tray, Blue symbolises trust meaning the cat is trusting us to take care of it and clean the pens when they get all messed up. I don't think the photograph needed to go through any editing so I didn't edit it.
After the Cleaning
The main focus of this photograph is the part of the pen that is all clean and orderly. The sharpest point of the photograph is the litter tray, the least sharp point is the cat whose black fur blends in with the black blanket it's lying on. There don't seem to be any shadows in the photograph but the litter tray is highlighted as it is brighter than other objects in the photograph. The dominant lines are the front bars of the cage, thin enough to see through. The angle the photograph was taken at makes the bars look slightly diagonal and it could cause the viewers eyes to follow the direction of the bars. There are geometric shapes in the photograph as rectangles created by the bars and the circles created by the food and water bowls. If I could touch the surface of the photograph I would feel the fur of the cat, the paper of the newspaper, the smooth plastic of the litter tray and the food bowl, the smooth metal of the water bowl, the cotton of the blanket and the rusty metal of the cage. The photograph starts with a dark tone on the left side and starts getting brighter in tone the further right you look. The main colour in this photograph is blue, Light blue symbolises health and with the pen cleaned then the living area for the can is more healthy. I didn't need to use Photoshop on this photograph as it didn't need editing.
Mischief Maker
The main focus in this photograph is the kitten that has stood in it's food bowl. The sharpest point is the eye of the kitten as this little mischief maker is searching for his next mischief conquest. The least sharp point would be the kitten's tail as it was wagging during the time of the photograph and has blurred thanks to the movement. There are very little shadow in this photograph if at all, the photograph is quite bright though. Since the photograph is bright, using natural lighting, you can assume it was taken in the daytime but since there aren't any shadows you can't tell what time of the day it was taken. The dominant lines in the photograph are the bars behind the kitten of the cage door, these lines are thinner than the other cages and very straight. The bars on the photograph create the geometric shape of squares. This creates a sort of grid pattern behind the kitten. If I could touch the surface of the photograph I would feel the very soft fur of the kitten, The smooth plastic of the food bowl, the rusty metal of the cage bars and the smooth, polished wood of the cage. The main colour in the photograph is black, Black symbolises power and mystery this means the kitten is the one in charge and it is a mystery as to the terror this little kitten may cause next. The photograph was edited so that the eye of the kitten was in line with the top and right line of the rule of thirds.
Trapped
The main focus of this photograph is the bars at the forefront, the bars are also the sharpest point as it emphasises the fact that these kittens are going to stay in this cage until someone can give them a home. The least sharp point would be the kittens themselves as they are not the main focus of the photograph. The natural light of the sun was the lighting used in this photograph but no shadows are seen, without shadows it is hard to tell what specific time the photograph was taken. However, the sun suggests that it was taken sometime during the day. The dominant lines in the photograph are the bars of the cage covering the whole image, these bars appear thick and all around the kittens emphasising again the trapped feeling for these kittens. There are geometrics shapes in the photograph made by the gaps between the bars, though the rectangles are thin to prove the kittens can't pass through. If I could touch the surface of the photograph I would feel the unrelenting coldness of the smooth, firm metal bars that keep the kittens in the cage. The main colours in this photograph are orange and black. Black symbolises strength and orange symbolises enthusiasm, I interpret this to mean that they have the strength to wait and the enthusiasm that someone will one day take them home. I didn't feel that this needed editing as it already makes an impact without any changes.
Sleeping In
The main focus in this photograph is the cat asleep in it's bed. The sharpest point of this photograph is the nose of the cat as it draws the viewer's eye towards the cat. The least sharp point would be the back of the bed. The natural light of the sun was used in this photograph directed in from the left as the highlighted part of the bed shows us. It is difficult to tell the time this was taken as there are no shadows and unlike humans, cats sleep through most of the day anyway. The dominant lines in the photograph are the thin curved lines that reflect the light on the bed in all different directions. There are geometric shapes in the photograph in the form of triangles in the wood at the back of the photograph. These triangles repeat them selves in different sizes to form a pattern along the wood. If I could touch the surface of the photograph I would feel the soft fabric of the bed, the smooth fur of the cats and the rough surface of the wooden back wall. The main colours in this photograph are orange and purple. Orange symbolises happiness and Purple symbolises luxury meaning this cat is happy to sleep in this luxurious bed instead of on blankets like the rest of the cats. I used Photoshop to edit this photograph by adding more contrast to the background wood so it didn't appear duller and easily blended into the bed.
